Great Ways To Embrace Summer Fun

The mercury is rising and that can only mean one thing: fun in the sun. Break out your flip-flops, dust off your bike and wipe the cobwebs from the grill because it’s time to embrace the warm weather.

Before the summer months pass you by, make a list of all the things you want to accomplish this summer. Whether you’re planning a family reunion, a vacation or just plan to spend as many weekends as possible at the beach, write down your summer goals and stick the list to your refrigerator. This way, you’ll be reminded of all the great things you want to do in the next few months.

If your to-do list is a little short, use our list of summer activities as inspiration.

Gardening. Whether you’ve got a green thumb or not, gardening can be a therapeutic and rewarding summer hobby. Put in a new flowerbed or try planting some vegetables. If space is an issue, consider planting veggies in pots on a deck. Peppers and tomatoes are fairly simple to grow. Plus, you only need a few plants to get a steady stream of fresh produce.

Barbequing. Odds are you’ll fire up the grill a time or two this summer, but what about hosting a neighborhood bbq? Make some fliers and invite people to your place for a little block party. To keep costs low, have everyone bring their own meat to grill and ask a few folks to make a cold salad or bring chips to pass. You’ll get to know your neighbors and you’ll be the talk of the town for hosting such a fun party!

Beach time. Spending some time with your toes curled in the sand is a must-do this summer. This year, pick a few beaches you haven’t been to and put them on your list. It’s always nice to check out new scenery. If you have kids, search the web for a new waterpark.

Camping. Nothing says summer like spending the night in the great outdoors. If you’re a parent, make the kids leave their gadgets behind. Yes, they can live without Facebook updates and video games. It might take some time to convince them of this, but once they’re swimming or tossing a Frisbee, they’ll forget about their electronic dependency. This goes for you too parents. Camping is all about enjoying the outdoors; your work email can wait a week.

Vacationing. Where you go doesn’t matter, as long as people who matter surround you. Whether you’re planning a big getaway or just headed to your cabin for a few weekends, be sure to spend some time with your family. Some of the best memories are created during the summer, so be sure to pencil in some vacation time.

Don’t forget to make plans for holiday weekends. If you’re traveling during “The Big Three” - Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day - make reservations now to avoid the rush. Happy Summer!
