Life moves quickly, and most days it feels as though a moment to slow down, decompress and move inward would be exactly what I need to recharge for the next thing on my 'to do list'.

Many spa treatments are designed to support rebalancing and deep inward focus for body mind and spirit. The key to rebalancing and deep focus is finding what works best for You.

Herbal Wraps are incredible for enabling deep internal focus and rebalancing the body. They are warm, soothing, intense treatments that use essential oils and herbs aromatically while creating a cocooning atmosphere. I love them. They are by far my favorite spa treatment to provide the extra assistance my body needs to transition, relax and simply rebalance. I owe this love to one of my favorite spa owners. She described the process beautifully, “herbal wraps are a natural way to create a metamorphosis for the body to reposition and unveil new layers from any recent journey.” The idea that we can shed the old, and engage new energy was intoxicating to my senses, and as a result one of my most treasured spa rituals was created. With this in mind, I have put together a few suggestions to assist you with the discovery of your most treasured spa ritual.

Ask questions about the treatment before you book. Spas have highly trained professional staff members who will assist you in finding the perfect treatment to meet your needs. It is helpful if you can give the staff member an idea of the type of experience you are seeking – smoother skin, looser muscles, overall relaxation, quiet time where you are the focus or a combination of any of these things. The spa's staff are the best resource for guidance in creating your perfect spa experience. They will also be able to give you advice on how to prepare prior to the treatment to get the most value from the service you have selected.

If the staff members can't describe the treatment process or the ingredients used in the treatment, my advice is to move on to something else. Each spa has developed a signature menu designed to benefit their guests. If they can't explain the process, ingredients or benefits then chances are your experience will not be what you are hoping for. Each professional in the spa works together to create the very best experience for the guest possible. Take advantage of the team knowledge, as you develop your spa routines and find the treatment that you can't live without. When I am researching a new spa, I ask what herbal blends they use, why they have selected that particular blend of herbs and what essential oils are used. Over the years I have developed a preference for spas that create custom wrap blends that follow the body's needs for each season or specific climate variances.

Speak up during the treatment. Your therapist is there for you. If the treatment is uncomfortable, you aren't going to get the benefits provided by the treatment. Many people make the mistake of not talking to their therapist about pressure, temperature, light, sound volume, or things that directly affect the treatment. Your therapist is trained to adjust the treatment to create the best possible outcome for you.

Know your overall health condition. As with anything, it is important to know & understand the effect the treatment might have with any existing health conditions or concerns you have. If you are unsure, talk to your therapist prior to beginning the treatment. They are knowledgable about the effects that the specific spa treatments will have with regard to health conditions.

The thing about spa experiences, as with so many things in life, they are unique and individual. I hope as Spring begins to unfurl, you will find time to explore the spa treatment that resonates with you.
